Our History

Our History

Founded in 1995, Summit Safety has always called the community of Drayton Valley, Alberta home. This small town in central Alberta is a hub for the Canadian oil and gas industry.  Summit Safety’s original mandate was to operate as a part of the oil and gas services sector, offering specialized safety services for the oil patch.

Lorna Heacock was one of Summit Safety’s first employees, working in the office starting in the mid-90s. Lorna and her husband bought the business in 2006 after about ten years of steady growth. Thanks to their strong leadership and commitment to customer satisfaction, Summit Safety continued to prosper and expand its services. Our reputation for quality and reliability grew with every satisfied customer. Today, Summit Safety is operated by Lorna and Gordon’s children Corey Howatt (Chief Executive Officer), and Megan Gilchrist (Chief Operating Officer).

As we come upon 25 years in operation, we’re proud of how far we’ve come from our modest beginnings! In our first years of operation we had three staff in the field and one in the office, serving the oil and gas industry of Drayton Valley.  Flash forward to now, we are a team of 40 people, offering services for medical transport, confined spaces, firefighting, decontamination, among others. We’re able to respond to clients across Alberta, out to Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Our fleet has grown to include state-of-the-art fire trucks, temperature-controlled decontamination shower units, and medical vehicles. We’re the local experts for safety equipment sales, rental, and service.

At Summit Safety we’re proud of where we come from and excited about where we’re going. We’ve built our reputation on our commitment to service; we’re not happy until you are.
